| - Eeeeek. I feel like I've given Wonder Bar three solid chances, and I've been disappointed every time.
My first visit was over the summer on a weekday around 5, so I was expecting a decent after-work crowd.. nope. No one was there when we arrived, so we sat outside in hopes that it would be a little more exciting, but the only other people who showed up were a couple of older ladies sharing some happy hour food and drinks. We had been planning on staying for some food, but we could really only handle being there for me to finish my "pear-tini," which is probably the best thing I've experienced at Wonder Bar
My second visit was with Kaitlin D. a few weeks later in the summer - we were excited to celebrate my birthday at a fun downtown bar, but again, I was really disappointed by the boring atmosphere. All I can really remember is that we had two drinks (including the poo-tini) and some average spring rolls before we escaped and found somewhere else to go.
My third visit was when Kaitlin and I decided to come back one more time this past weekend after a holiday party that was held downtown. Wonder Bar seemed to be loud and full and fun, so we grabbed some drinks and settled in. Gosh, the crowd and the feel of this place is hard to describe! There were groups of guys staring at the game on TV, there were middle-aged women with too much makeup and low-cut tops, and about two couples sitting by themselves at the small bar tables in the back. The weird vibe could have been made up for a little bit with some amazing drinks, but that is not what we got. My gingerbread martini was pretty okay minus the floating snowman, but it wasn't really anything special. We were so underwhelmed with EVERYTHING that neither of us finished our drinks (whaaaat!? this is probably a first for us!!!)!!!
The same bartender was working on each of my three visits, and she just really is kind of awful - she always seems to act like she has something better to be doing than acknowledging us. Also, the prices of our drinks were way high for what they were and for the atmosphere. I get that Wonder Bar has a prime location downtown, but they really need to get it together. They just aren't living up to their potential!
