  • Though I frequent the NoDa neighborhood a few times per month, this was my first time visiting JackBeagles. My friends and I came here after the Parkway Drive concert at the Fillmore. We were famished after all the moshing and head banging and needed food in our belly to soak up the overpriced alcohol and sober up a bit before heading back home (don't worry, we had a DD). Each of my friends ordered the Philly cheesesteak. One even ordered it with cheese whiz (ugh... just... no). I, however, strayed from the pack and ordered a basket of fried mushrooms and a cup of chili mac. The fried mushrooms were thinly sliced portabellas, lightly breaded, and fried golden. While it was good, I'm not sure I would order it again. The chili mac was made with your typical elbow macaroni and cheddar cheese, but what elevated the dish was the savory, sweet, and slightly spicy chili. There were no complaints from anyone in our group. We left with our bellies full and smiles on our faces. I love the divey atmosphere of this little restaurant. The staff was very amiable, especially our server, Ryan. My opinion of this place may be skewed even more favorably since Ryan comped half my meal without me knowing. JackBeagles was a great ending to our amazing night. There's simply no wrong choice with anything on the menu so give this place a visit if you're in the NoDa area.
