  • Echo Canyon Trail: Be aware of what you're getting into. If you are a rock climber, this hike is nothing for you. You will call it "easy." Don't bother. If you are a casual hiker (like most of us), you will be scrambling (using both hands and legs) on boulders most of the way up, and will call this a "difficult" trail...but it's still fun and worthwhile. Parking sucks on the weekends. Be prepared to wait in a line of bumper-to-bumper vehicles for about 20-30 minutes. Seems ridiculous at first, but it goes a little quicker than you think. Parts of this hike are so steep, there are rails for you to hold onto. Use them. The rest of the hike is steep too -- boulders piled on boulders. An intense workout on the way up (like being on an irregular stair-climber machine). Treacherous on the way down. I was being watchful, and I still fell on my ass at a few different spots. My friend said she's gotten bruised up pretty bad on this mountain before, so just take it easy if you need to. If you hike and live in the Valley...well you have to do this hike eventually. It completes the checklist. And it's fun with great views...and a good workout. But the with the parking hassle and the quasi-perilous terrain, I won't be a regular here.
