  • I was looking forward to tea here but I was sorely disappointed. The tea room is quite charming and has two sides - one very bright and sunny and the other quite posh and purple. The service is spot on and their tea menu is fairly extensive...and that's about all that's acceptable about this place. I'll preface the rest of my review by saying that I have had afternoon tea many, many times in the UK and in other parts of the Commonwealth, and while I wasn't expecting the Windsor Arms to be in the ranks of the finest afternoon teas, I did expect a good effort! First up - presentation. Afternoon tea is supposed to be a delight to look at. This one felt hastily cobbled together, with rather unappetizing sandwiches. The sandwiches and petit fours were small but the scones were massive, which made the whole offering look quite shabby. The mini quiches, while the filling was lovely, the pastry was soggy. The sandwiches were made of very plain, soft white bread and were soggy but also felt like they had been sitting out for a while. Honestly, I could have made better sandwiches with minimal effort. The scones were tasty and lemony, and slightly flaky but because they were really large, the texture wasn't quite right. They came with a feeble attempt at clotted cream and 2 jams, one was house made - it was watery and not very good at all! The petit fours were good - nice mix of flavours and textures. We were presented with a creme brûlée type dessert (but with a fruit bottom) but the chef had gone a little overboard with the blowtorch and both of ours were burnt and tasted as such too. Bottom line: awful awful awful! I was so annoyed to have to spend close to $100 on this horrible excuse for afternoon tea ($45 each), and intend to write to The Windsor Arms to recommend that they step up their game!
