| - I remember my first time coming to this Vera Wang, it was my first time in any Vera Wang. I was with my friend Belinda, she had her prom in a week and we were desperately trying to find a dress for her size negative-two figure. Now that I think about it, she was at the time the most beautiful woman I knew.
We found this boutique by accident, and I was curious as hell. We walked in, and it was like going to the most beautiful house in the world. We must have came here on a slow day because we didn't have an appointment, yet we were helped by the two older ladies working there. We were very young, I think the ladies thought we were cute and let us wander through the store.
It was my first time in a bridal shoppe, and I think I felt more comfortable than Belinda. The house (which was what it was) had very low lighting which felt just right, the dresses carefully hung on the hangers, or worn by the mannequins.
I told the ladies that we were looking for a prom dress, and she showed us to the store's signature piece art the time. The bloody dress on the mannequin looked like the most beautiful white Christmas tree I have ever seen..which in most cases would be an insult, but I instantly fell in love with the dress, and wanted to marry the mannequin wearing it.
I was like 19 years old, and beautiful Belinda was 17. We were over our heads thinking we could afford a dress here. The signature dress here was $5000, which if you think about it was VERY FRUGAL....but for two teenagers from the hood, five thousand dollars was like a million dollars. The ladies knew we couldn't possibly afford it, but she entertained us. I guess she thought we were a young couple, which would have been very nice..for me. I guess I might have secretly liked her without knowing, it was a very confusing time for me.
Now the dresses here are signficantly higher priced, but the service has risen as well. The secret to all successful bridal boutiques is the seamstress. Remember that, this is an actual industry secret unbeknowest to the patrons. It doesn't matter whether a store has the most beautiful, expensive dresses, if the seamstress is inexperienced or have poor skills, everything can just go to hell.
Girls coming to the shop crying their eyes out with fitting issues or dress accidents, and nobody able to do anything. The horror stories I've heard can keep a girl from getting married for a lifetime.
Vera Wang Toronto, they have the city's one of two best seamstresses, although, her schedule isn't as flexible as the other one, it still basicall the most important factor when it comes to purchasing a wedding dress, especially for $5000+. To be honest, twenty-thousand dollars for a dress here is very reasonable, but remember to demand service, and do your research about the trade so that you know what you are paying for.
I do like this location, it's very reasonable. In Shanghai's Vera Wang, it costs 3000RMB to simple try on dresses, and you're only limited to only 7 fittings. That's 500 dollars to try on dresses!
For me, this is Toronto's number two best bridal boutique. The best in my opinion, I will review after I get married myself. Whenever that may be.
For Belinda, we found a beautiful and eclecticly designed dress for her on Yonge Street for $300, with only three ever made. Aparently, her prom was amazing. This was seven years ago. Since, Belinda has gone winning many beauty pageants, becoming master of ceremonies for many events in and out of the Canada, and now I think she has her own show in Hong Kong.
I'm still single..
