Would highly recommend this tour for native Pittsburghers and visitors to the city! As a yinzer it was incredibly interesting to learn new information about places I've passed hundreds of times.
We reserved tickets the night before but our reservation wasn't found day-of, luckily the tours weren't full yet so we were able to purchase tickets on location, which seems like it might not always be the case (it was a Monday morning and it was jam packed). They suggest being there 30 min before the tour begins, but if you've reserved tickets online I'd suggest going a little earlier to make sure your tickets are there.
So you get on the car/boat and it fits pretty comfortably! There's plenty of space to look out to be able to see the sights from all angles. It takes you through the city then heads into the river by the water steps in the north shore. The river part left a little to be desired as I feel like it mostly was time for the kids to drive and bs'ing to fill the time, no real sight seeing/information being giving.
Our tour guide and driver were Eliza and Jason and they were perfect for the job!! The jokes were corny and the humor was dry and I was laughing constantly. They gave humor with every tidbit of information and it really made the tour, it didn't seem like they were tired of doing the same tour every day, multiple times a day. It was the perfect mix of interaction and information.
Worth the money? Maybe. I'm not sure what the price of the Molleys trolleys tours are but it might be worth it to check it out as it's a longer tour and the ducky tour ran about an hour (with about 20 of that just being driving aimlessly around the river for the kids).
