  • Metropolitan Cleaners is a great neighborhood dry cleaner. The business is family-run and decidedly old school, with either the husband, wife, or elderly mother always stationed behind the counter. Although they never seem to remember my name they do know my dog, Radar, and keep a box of dog treats at the ready for him and other canine customers. Of course, the reason I go to Metropolitan is to have my clothes dry cleaned, and the quality of work is high, especially considering the low cost. Clothes are generally ready by the end of the week, and can even be cleaned on the same day they're dropped off. Tailoring services are also available, and although I've never had major alternations done there, I have had some patches sewn in and hems taken up, and the work is always well done. If you live in the South Side, Metropolitan Cleaners is a great local business to patronize. They even sell Girl Scout cookies in February!
