  • Okay so finally went to this club and it is ironic it is named "This is London" because the attitude of the security is exactly the same as in London UK. So let me explain. I called up at 6pm and arranged to get on the guest list with me and a friend. Arrive at the club at 11.15 and was advised to join the end of a very long guest list queue. Not a problem. The problem was the lack of security in the queue to stop people pushing in, joining their friends closer to the front etc...many of the decent customers were annoyed but who wanted to argue with a group of 8 guys? So anyway get to the front to the lady with the clipboard and the security chappy to be told that my names not on the guest list. So I am thinking "heeeere we go" after noticing the quick glances they both made at each other. (BTW I worked in the best UK - London clubs and know the routines, as they all do it their too if they think they can get away with it). After arguing that I called and showing the call log on my phone, the security chappy whispers "I will let you bypass the guest list if you both give $20" To which I told him N f-ing O, that I will not pay him $20 then expect to pay $20 cover once inside. After telling them I will go elsewhere BUT i will raise a complain with the management the next day they reluctantly let us in. Okay so that was annoying and NOW to the Club! Club consists of two floors, very spacious and very busy although the bar staff manage to cope well with the crowd. The downstairs and upstairs sections both have different feels and decorations and it can be annoying trying to make your way around the dance floor area to be encountered by a sofa or table every few steps. The dress code for the club was pretty smart although no idea why a supposed top end club allows guys wearing vests or baseball caps in?? Confusing. There was an abundance of middle eastern guys, many of which would be scouting the dance floor for girls. Music - this club needs to define what each room represents music wise. My friend and I prefer the RnB stuff so at the start of the night this seemed to be upstairs, then at some point it would change to dance so we would go downstairs to find the dance has changed to hiphop. okay so we stay in the new hiphop room which after awhile changes to house so we go upstairs and its now top 40 and this kind of mix carried on all night. To me if you have two rooms keep the music genres separated or don't muddle them as much. Oh so along with the security peeps trying to rip me off, a barmaid also tried to blatantly short-change me, if it was another day I may not have noticed I got charged $17 for a beer but after more arguing she gave in. This could actually be a much better club that it already is, their attempt to overfill the club with as many people backfires. Obvious when you people leaving after ten minutes of being in the place. It would work much better if standards are raised so that it does not become a complete sausage fest. Although I don't smoke I did go with my friend to the smoking patio, while he did, and even with security around somebody still had the balls to smoke weed. So yeah I might go there again if it was for a friends birthday but I hate to think this is Toronto's best. It gets two stars - two were lost by lax security and bribery, and 1 was lost by generally too many pervy guys scaring all the chicks off. P.s. the upstairs is pretty dark especially on the dance floor so the black dude walking around in sunglasses all night, please tell us your secret, must be bat sonar!
