| - I have been on a mission to find french macarons that rival the ones I had (every day, let's be honest) when I was in France a few months ago. So far, they have been sub par or good but nowhere near the same as the ones I've had. Here, not only were there macarons, but Caneles as well (region specialty of Bordeaux)!!
Let's start with the caneles. When I first walked in, unfortunately the caneles were still being made, and my friend and I had to wait 20 minutes. We begrudgingly forced ourselves to go shopping during this time (ha!). When we got back, a few dollars lighter, they were ready. And they were warm. And pretty fantastic. They had a super creamy texture on the inside and sweet on the outside. Just amazing.
Now, the macarons. I ended up getting pistachio, this is common flavor I've been trying to find that's just as good, or close to what I had in France. Most other macarons you get smell so good, since people try to put essence in it (I'm not a baker, I'm assuming this is what makes things smell so good but maybe doesn't have the taste), but then you bite into it, and it doesn't actually taste like what you wanted. Well, I have to say, this was probably the exact opposite. When I bit into the pistachio macaron, all I could taste was an amazing pistachio flavor. This is what I've been looking for!
Highly recommend this place, right across from Yard House in Desert Ridge. I am excited to go back and have some more caneles, macarons, and try their almond croissant.. maybe my next mission since I found where I can get my macaron and caneles fix!!
