  • When I found out I was expecting my first, I was so excited to have found maternity care that was so close to my house, and they even touted to be "for women, by women". However, I could not have found their level of care to be further from their tag-line. The offices are clean and beautiful, but the staff was icy cold. Initially open to the idea of having a midwife, I was scheduled with Janelle Skarphol (at the Scottsdale location), who is a CNM. She was the WORST and I almost left the appointment in tears. Her bedside manner was immature and quite frankly, super rude. She kept interrupting me and any time I asked her a question she would blow off my concerns and laugh awkwardly. When I expressed my interest in having an unmedicated birth, her response was a dismissive "it's not like we're going to strap you down to the table and force you to have an epidural" and "you don't even have to think about this now, you're probably just overly emotional and hormonal". Talk about the OPPOSITE of patient-centered care, and she is a MIDWIFE! After I left that appointment fuming, we scheduled my next appointment with a doctor at the 7th Street location. The woman who did our ultrasound there was amazing and very personable, so we thought that our MomDoc experience might be looking up. We met with Dr. O. to go over our results after the ultrasound, and while he was unreasonably good-looking for an obstetrician, we walked out of that appointment pretty disappointed again. All he told us was "I'll spare you the details, everything looked normal" and then he walked out, literally less than 60 seconds total spent with him. He was super friendly during our brief meeting, but we're first time parents, we want ALL the details!! We were (still unbeknownst to us at the time) 14 weeks in, and after two ultrasounds and two doctor's appointments, NOBODY HAD EVEN TOLD US OUR DUE DATE! I had to call the medical records office and have THEM read me my files. After my bloodwork came back, they told me I had abnormal results, but that I would have to book another appointment in 4 weeks to find out what was wrong and that I could not even retrieve my OWN medical records to find out what it was sooner. The level of care was appalling, so we decided to promptly transfer. I am SO glad I got the heck away from MomDoc!
