| - I am giving one star because I couldn't pick ZERO stars. I went in, knowing I had a molar that had issues as I had been uninsured for a year and a half and was unable to afford dental work on the income the part time job I was working provided me.
The dentist advised I needed a crown, and they could do it the same day. I was please at first, I knew the tooth had issues and wanted to get it resolved before it got worse. The dentist told me while he was working on the crown that it had a large cavity and he through it would need a root canal and would put the crown on with temporary cement until we knew the tooth would be ok. Well, the dentist didn't use temporary cement. And 2 months later over the weekend, I was in the worst pain of my life crying all weekend. I got in with the dentist the first thing that Monday morning and was told the tooth would need a root canal, but they could't do it for 2 weeks because the "Specialist" that did that was only in the office every two weeks.
So I was sent home in a ton of pain with a prescription for Amoxicillin and an appointment in two weeks that I was counting down for due to the amount of pain I was in. I showed up, nervous wondering how they were going to safely do a root canal on a tooth with a crown on it. The "Specialist" put a contraption around the tooth to "isolate the tooth and prevent anything from falling down my throat" during the procedure. I felt like I was in a horror movie, the "Specialist" advised me I would feel a little vibration, but it shouldn't hurt and got to work drilling. About 30 seconds into the root canal I heard a loud pop and the horror movie contraption covering half of my face came loose. The dentist sat there for a minute, without telling me what was going on, told me the crown popped off and he would be right back. When he came in he wanted to get an X-ray, when he showed me the X-ray and told me that the tooth had completely broken off and there wasn't enough tooth left to attached a crown to and I would have to have the tooth extracted I about lost it. I literally drew my knees to my chest and cried my eyes out for the rest of the appointment.
To add insult to injury, I had to beg the office to have a dentist stay to extract the tooth so I wasn't sent home with a broken off tooth that was causing me pain for an entire weekend. Now I have a HUGE gapping hole in my mouth and it is going to cost me THOUSANDS of dollars to fix it! If the dentist had taken care of this issue in the first place, I wouldn't be in this situation now.
I got a call from Lauren at the office today who left me a message saying "I am calling to follow up in regards to your appointment last Friday to discuss what happened and everything and what we need to do to move on." When I returned her call I was told the extraction was more than the cost of the crown and that the amount I paid for the crown was moved to cover the extraction and that they weren't charging me for the rest so it pretty much "Evened out" to which I responded "Ya, but now I have a huge hole in my mouth that is going to cost me thousands to fix" she told me I could come in and talk to a dentist about what needs to be done to restore the tooth. I told Lauren I would be finding a new dentist. I am definitely considering calling a malpractice attorney to see if there is anything that can be done.
On a side note. I had an appointment on 8/17 and I was charged $133.20. I just got my EOB from my dental insurance company and my portion should have been $83.20. So they are over charging me as well.
