  • I've heard for ages about how "These guys are the best!!!" and I used to wonder how anybody could possibly be so excited about a tire place. And the truth is that I did have a 5 star experience there not long ago. But not today. My Audi needed new tires (or at least one) so I didn't hesitate to roll in here this morning. I was greeted, and we looked at the tires and agreed that it needed 2. With that, we went into the office to finalize things. I was told that they have tires that are $75 a piece which sounded fine. I literally put 3000 miles a year on this car. Then its explained that these are not in stock, but they do have some that are $116 a piece. I'd asked how long it will take to get them in stock to which I was told that they have them at other locations. Then I suggest that I go to another location and am told that "he doesn't know how long the wait time would be at the other stores." Fair enough. I had no idea what wait time would be at this location when I arrived. But it seemed apparent that the sales man thought I'd be best off staying with them. Ultimately I was pleasantly assured that they can have the tires couriered and that my car could be completed by 4pm. But I'm told that I have to pay to have them brought over from another store. I don't quite know why I went along with this initially, but I did. I agreed and left for a few hours. As the day went by I realized that this was BS. There are more tire stores in this city including the dealerships and they ALL price match. For me to honor this store with my business is my gift to them but then they tell me that the best priced tire for my needs isn't in stock and I have to pay to have it brought from their sister store? Then my wheels start turning (no pun intended) and I wonder why in the world they wouldn't tell every customer that the particular best priced tire isn't in stock but that they can have it in a few hours at a cost to the buyer? Discount Tire can always seem like martyr's absorbing the cost when a customer is ready to walk but otherwise its pure profit. And when they "waive" the courier fee every customer is going to think that these guys really are the best. I am not saying that this is what they do. But I don't quite know why they would justify the client paying to allow them to honor their pricing. If you go to Home Depot looking for the $75 Ryobi drill and its out of stock, they sell you the $125 dollar one that's a step or two up for the $75. Anyways...it just left me feeling jagged. When I showed up at 4:15 my car had no tires on it. They were still working on it. I did get out of there by 4:30 and I griped about how I felt scammed with the "courier charge". Shawn laid it on a little thick letting me know that I'd agreed to it. But obviously he wasn't letting it go to corporate so he wound up dropping the price of each tire from $75 to $70 keeping the $15 courier fee on there as if it needed to be accounted for. I still wound up $5 out of pocket I feel but thats fine. By the time all the other charges were put on it was still over $200 for 2 tires which is probably the right price. But the experience wasn't great and I will probably give one of the other 17000 competitors in town my business next time. 3 stars. Not the worst, but certainly not a 5 star experience.
