| - Before eating at Scarpetta, my husband and I only knew of Scott Conant as the guy who judges Chopped, hosts that awful 24 hour Restaurant battle show, hates onions, and any dish where you mix fish with cheese. He also likes to wear extremely tight unbuttoned shirts that makes him look like a distant cousin to the Czech brothers that Dan Aykroyd and Steve Martin used to play on SNL in the 70s. But for restaurant week 2011 we stopped by here, lured by the promise of $25 spaghetti so perfectly delicious, that it makes Jesus weep.
Sadly, the spaghetti did not make anyone weep and did not live up to the hype. In fact, my wonderful husband actually said that my marinara sauce that I routinely rip off from Mario Batali and Anne Burrell, is much better. I personally was not a fan of the thick noodles, but I thought the sauce on Scott Conant's version was better than mine. To each their own, really. But yes I am slightly marking down my rating for the over-hyped food.
Other than that, most of the other dishes were just pretty good, but the bread basket with the eggplant dip and the truffled mushroom polenta were absolutely spectacular. Honestly, you could come here and only order the polenta and mooch off the bread basket, and you will have a pretty hearty and filling meal for a decent price.
So I'm happy that Scott Conant's restaurant in Las Vegas was better than I thought it would be, but his Jesus spaghetti is just ok.
