I recently helped my mother, a senior living in Sun City West, when she needed a new car. We did a great deal of research before beginning the journey. Yelp was our starting point. Yelp reviews of Phoenix area Honda and Toyota dealerships generally reflect a polarization at both ends of the rating spectrum, from which I concluded that the probability of having a good experience with any one of them was likely to be a roll of the dice.
We visited nearly half the Honda and Toyota dealers in Phoenix, and discovered that some of them richly deserve their 1-2 star Yelp ratings. Bell Honda was (for us) a bright spot. Sales person Omar Hernandez at Bell Honda was uncharacteristically low pressure, prompt, fair, attentive and deeply engaged in his work. The dealership's new car manager (Scott) was supportive of Omar, and we found him to be pleasant person with whom to work. My mother happily left with a 2015 Honda Civic LX sold to us at a fair price. We will undoubtedly look for Omar at Bell Honda when we next need a new vehicle.
The process of new car shopping is (almost) never fun, and most people find the stereotypic sales and negotiation ritual to be frustrating and exhausting. I acknowledge it's a tough and competitive business. Dealer margins on new cars are very thin, and sales people generally find it difficult to make a living without being fairly aggressive. That combination has the potential to create some bad behavior. It was very nice to find someone like Omar and a dealership like Bell Honda in this Darwinian environment.
