  • A bit of a rant review... Original Install Date: 2/23/15 Today's Date: 8/22/16 (Review a YEAR AND A HALF in the making) Unit: Double Din JVC Model KW-R910BT ($172 Brand New at the time) So, after hearing about the advertised $1 INSTALL!!!! and a couple recommendations, I went to this Audio Express (year and a half ago) wanting to switch out the standard equipment on my 2012 Scion. The salesperson Bryan was very nice and knowledgeable when it came to the items and answering my questions... Great Start!! After debating between 3 models I went with the slightly cheaper of the bunch ($172) to save about $30 right there. All together... Total install cost me $367!!! supposedly because I needed "special" $150 connections for my Steering Wheel Controls to work "Properly". Right then I was like WTH!!! What about this so called $1 Install?? He started going on and explaining about the proper wiring, etc. So I once again debated for a few moments before deciding "Fine", setting the appointment, and giving a $50 down payment/deposit. Came back for install and they had my car in shop for about 2 to 3 hours (a bit long for installing something they're suppose to have expert experience at I think). They brought it out, and walked me through the controls and setup making sure I was satisfied and I was AT THE TIME. RESULT: My steering wheel controls worked perfectly fine for about a month or two before deciding to start working only intermittently (like 25% of the time). By the time I had time to take it in to them (between my schedule and knowing they would probably take a few hours again), dealing with it til then, it was only a couple months left on the year warranty. I took it in and about an hour and a half later... "We looked everything over. Connections are all good and nothing is wrong. (other than it not working. lol.) So we just reset the unit and it works like new." Alrighty then.... wheel controls worked fine BEFORE they messed with them for install???? Went on my way. Controls were working again after "Reset" for ONLY A FEW WEEKS THIS TIME!!! (didn't have time to take in again before warranty expired this time). They work intermittently probably less than the first time like 10/15% of the time. Just been dealing with the problem since. Now it's not like its a big deal or hard at all to just use the controls on the unit, but when I payed all this extra money for "Proper connections so it works right" to use my steering controls (about the same $$ as the unit itself) that's what IRRITATES AND PISSES ME OFF!!! So PER INVOICE... the unit plus tax was $185.93; it was $181.33 for connections and install.... $99.99 for "STEERING WHEEL INTERFACE WITH USB", $21 for "DOUBLE DIN MULTI KIT" (shouldn't kit be provided with product), $14 for "TOYOTA 87+" (whatever that is???), $30 for "LABOR" (that should at least be the $1 if anything), and $5 for "NECESSARY SHOP SUPPLIES" (If its a necessary "shop" supply then why charge me for it? Couldn't even eat $5 at least after all the other extra charges??) $1 INSTALL MY ASS 2 Stars just cause of friendliness and knowledge (other than install). THAT'S IT! Unit itself is Great!!!
