| - SLUM LORDS! BEWARE!
They manage properties: poorly. There's one handyman to handle just about everything for every property. And then there's the office staff. (Jennifer?) the receptionist is pleasant and helpful enough. Joe leasing agent is fairly pleasant and seemingly reasonable and understanding. Ashley too is helpful and understanding. Now we get to Susan. Unpleasant, unprofessional, abrupt, argumentative, condescending, abrasive, inept, completely void of customer friendly communication skills and a quick way to ruin a good day all rolled into a package of barely restrained hostility and the inability to empathize. No good reason the public should be exposed to her at all; in person or on the phone ever.
I moved into a property over a weekend. The cleaning was sub par. Bathroom filthy. Carpet had cigarette burns, (does it matter if you shampoo it?) Cleaning is not a crime. Not my biggest issue, the stove only had 2 working burners and the ventilation hood was disgusting to the point of being a fire hazard. Her response to my concerns was to put it all on the walk through list and it would be handled in a timely manner. It was not. My irritation has increased by now several days in and I speak with this disaster again. I compared using a 2 burner stove to using a camping stove. I wasn't camping. Her response was that things break. I asked her if she would use a stove like that or thought that was reasonable? She assumed the role of therapist and said it seemed like I didn't like the property. (Relevance?). I'm sure I'd like it more with a properly working stove. At one point she asked if it were her time to talk. Since she'd offered no resolutions or comprehension of why a new resident could be irritated, and to discourage further sarcastic remarks; I responded "No." which she ignored as I anticipated. Solution? A few days later I got a replacement stove (NOT new or nearly) and dirty enough to bring roaches. Which segues perfectly into : BEWARE OF LANDLORDS WHO DO NOT! WHO DO NOT! PROVIDE PEST CONTROL. I should have known.
Also BEWARE: SLUM LORDS THAT: do not respond to emergency calls AT ALL., (ceiling leaking water?) and are so UNFAMILIAR with the property as to not know gas heat from all electric. That makes a big difference when you have to reopen an account with the gas company and have your service connected again when you could have just transferred the service and not waited a week to get it connected in winter AND not had to pay another deposit where you are only partially reimbursed because SLUM LORDS cant' be bothered to know what they are renting and repeatedly assure you it's an all electric property. Ashley was kind enough to provide space heaters which she picked up later. Not everyone is a monster or just so unbelievably in the wrong business. Susan would likely thrive somewhere her interaction with people is kept to a minimum. Maybe someplace like Alaska, not so many seasons to worry be of concern.
