  • such such deliciousness, really in the running for the best meal of my life. the atmosphere is great, very casual and not pompous at all (with prices to match), especially for a french restaurant. the boyf and i really over-ordered, not having counted on the portions being so large. we sat by the open window and caught a breeze and looked out onto the walking street where a guy was singing songs. such a quaint and pretty atmosphere, but also casual. we started with the snails and foie gras. the snails were okay, though i don't know how they compare to other places. i will say that i was surprised there seemed to be almost no salt in them. but i don't like predominant garlic flavors that that could be why i didn't love them. but definitely worth eating still, as butter can make everything better. foie gras has become my star-crossed lover. it's the most decadent, and possibly most delicious thing i've ever put in my mouth but i've yet to decide if i will eat it again because of how controversial it is. but this was amazing. smooth and creamy, categorically different from pates and other livers. a bit of salty flavor, but mostly just broad, deep, and intense. the best part was a rind of yellow duck fat surrounding the block, that i could mix in to my liking. i think it may have come with a tiny salad too but no one cares about that. for entrees, the boyf got mussels in roquefort sauce and fries. they were as delicious as they sound and the fries were good by themselves and in the cheese sauce. i just realized we didn't get ketchup with the fries, but maybe because they know how superior the sauce is for dipping. i got salmon tartar which came with stir-fried zucchini and a salad of greens. the zucchini was pure butter and too salty, but since i don't like squash much, it didn't matter to me. the salad was field greens with a creamy vinaigrette, which is was delicious. the salmon tartar was fresh and had a bit of crunch to it, as there was some cucumber or other texture in it. it was really great, but i think i still prefer tuna tartar. someone at the table next to us got steak tartar and it looked amazing, though i didn't get up my nerve to try it. we had no room at all for dessert (they had a deal where you could add an appetizer and dessert to your meal for only $12 extra), despite what a good deal it would have been to get one. we had already over-ordered and couldn't do anymore. so sadly, i cannot comment on their desserts. with a small bottle of the house wine (a rose), the whole bill after tax and tip came to just a few dollars over a hundred (for the wine, two appetizers, and two entrees). i think you'd be hard-pressed to find french food at a better price. i definitely would want to go again if i'm in the area.
