I quite like the downtown Great Dane, and have probably been here about a dozen times.
First off, the downstairs bar is just the kind of place I like to drink: dim, cozy, a friendly barkeep and a TV I can watch soccer on.
I've always liked the Great Dane's burgers, and order them frequently. If you're going to have a burger on the menu that includes a brat patty, and bacon, there's really not much point in ordering anything else. For appetizers, the cheese curds are tasty as well as the poutine. I'm a fan of nachos and the Nakoma nachos here are delicious (and can be spicy as hell sometimes). Wings are par for the course and are tasty as well.
The Great Dane I think really shines when it comes to beer options. Their year-round offerings are very good and I find myself often saying "this is what this style should taste like" after having one. I'm always curious to find out what new brew has been scribbled artfully on the chalk board, so I'll often order a tasting round of them all. They don't always hit, but if you're an adventurous beer drinker you'll always leave happy.
