  • I only tried two dishes here, but I felt like both were extremely heavy. In glancing through the menu, it seemed that most of the dishes bordered on the heavy, carb-full side of brunch. Not that there's anything wrong with that, and brunch food tends to be heavy in general, but I felt that Vovomeena definitely took that to a new extreme with the dishes I tried. They were very unbalanced, and I didn't feel like finishing the meal after a few bites because of how one-dimensional the flavors felt. Vovomeena is located in a small plaza with a shared parking lot between a few restaurants. Parking can be insane during the lunchtime rush, but it's not usually too hard to find a spot. Tables felt somewhat sticky to me, and unfortunately there were quite a few flies hovering around (not that that's the restaurant's fault). The mechanism is order first at the counter, grab drinks as they're made at the counter, and then find self seating. Service at the counter was short, although the waiter manning the tables was nice and checked on us a few times. Iced cold brew: This was a far cry from the fragrant, nutty cold brew coffee that the menu promised. I much prefer the Starbucks cold brew even, and this was very watered down and bland in comparison. The cup was also half ice, which I wasn't a fan of. HMOC: waffle topped with pork loin and donut. This combination was very interesting, and I hadn't really had anything like it before. My main issue with this dish, as I've mentioned above, is how it was heavy upon heavy upon heavy. The waffle was sweet and syrupy, then on top the pork loin was salty and dense (it tasted more like ham so I was surprised), and finally there's a fried donut on top that was also very rich. I felt that there wasn't a component to alleviate some of the richness of the dish, so it was hard to enjoy after the first few bites. I actually preferred that the pork had been cured or marinated before, as the saltiness similar to ham could combat the sweetness of the waffle and donut a little. Pain Perdu: I know this is a Yelp favorite, but it was really just banana bread smothered in syrup. There wasn't really anything that suggested french toast to me, and paying $10+ for two slices of banana bread soaked in syrup with half a sliced banana on top didn't feel worth it to me. The banana bread was also really, really sweet, which was then exacerbated by the syrup on top. The whole dish was so sweet that it made the banana taste bland. I was lured in by the amazing reviews, but I don't know that I'd return for a second visit.
