| - New Years Day. Very little places open. Freezing cold. Starving. Thanks to a trusted website called Yelp, I found a place on Bloor near the Old Mill Inn, where my girl and I were staying. That place...was Bryden's. We didn't stay (a dank atmosphere and a smell resembling foot odour wasn't enough to warrant a review by itself), so we walked a little farther, and found Dark Horse.
The interior is standard clean pub. The patio area is very big, and I imagine is a hit in the summer. We had just missed their NYD brunch special, but can't win em all I guess. My girl went for the roast beef sandwich, and I had the pulled pork sandwich. Our server was very nice, and even in the face of an annoying issue (the pop machine wasn't up to snuff, and our drinks were without flavour), didn't stop smiling, and made sure we left satisfied.
My girl had no complaints about the roast beef, and the pulled pork was great. I also have to make mention of their delicious fries.
The only thing that bugged me is that we were seated on the right side of the place. Nice window view, but our table was right behind the ceiling speaker playing Edge 102, but it seemed to be a little on the fritz, and was giving off some annoying feedback the whole time. It wasn't too noisy to warrant changing tables, it just had its moments of lameness.
Not a bad place at all if you're in the area, and located extremely close to a movie theater no less. I'd return.
