  • My water heater decided to explode about a month after the warranty expired. Somehow it felt extra annoying to replace the heater with exactly the same unit again, so I started looking into tankless water heaters. I called a few companies for rough quotes, and the prices for a tankless water heater were coming in between $4-$6k including install. Some companies refused to give prices over the phone and insisted on a $59 service charge to come out to give an estimate. At those prices I guess we were sticking with a regular tank! At that point we ran into our neighbours who told us they used HTA plumbing to install a tankless heater and for a great price (in their case, $2500 all in). We decided to call HTA and scheduled an appointment for an estimate. They sent someone out the very next day. The person who actually came was Howard, the owner. Howard was very friendly and willing to answer all our questions. Between the neighbour's recommendation and our interaction with him we decided to go ahead and book our installation (although in between his visit and our installation were a number of phone calls where we didn't get a call back and had to follow-up with the office staff so you need to be persistent and patient through this part). They came the very next day after we scheduled the install at 7:00am. Note you will need to pay 50% right then and the rest after the job is finished. They do a cash discount, but you would need to pay with actual cash (not cheques). Two guys worked all day (until 5pm), and at the end of it we had a new gas line put in (upgrade from 1/2" to 3/4", new hot water pipes, the new tank, permit fees and old tank removed - good riddance!) So far the heater is working great. For the price and quality of installation delivered, I'd give these guys 5 stars. But be prepared that the followup and office interaction isn't perfect (acceptable to me for what I got.)
