Something about this great Mojave Desert has me wanting to explore more and more of it. After headed south at Beatty, NV, maybe for less than 8 miles, you reach Rhyolite, NV. Round trip this took make 4 and a half hours. This abandoned ghost town provides great profile pictures for your facebook, and serves also as a great way to make your indie friends jealous. This location is marvelous and hidden, and is one of Nevada's best kept secret.
I predict more and more people will be enticed with exploring these outdoors and creepy backwood towns of the US-95 northbound. There was a cemetary that we feared to travel to only because of the unpaved road, but alas next time I will not be so easily defeated by my Hyundai Accent. I would love to return to this place and take more photos, explore some abandoned mines (jk), and re-live my favorite scenes of Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns.
I can only hope you all have the proper transportation to get you here, as it is well worth it!
