What an experience. I'd never been to an auction before I ventured to Rick's Auction Galleries and it's a bit like stepping into another world. Each Wednesday, this warehouse--located blocks away from the Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre--opens its doors for a sale you wouldn't believe. The sprawling gallery is filled with household items, furniture and more. Scavenged laregly from estate sales, nearly all items are in pristine condition. Each week, the auction changes. Some nights might specialize in furniture, other nights antiques. Looking for a sofa? Odds are you can find one in beautiful condition for as little as $25. Only stipulation is that you have to load and remove everything yourself within 24 hours. I've found some amazing finds here, and look forward to the next Wednesday I can drop by for a little action. Warning: If you're a bit of a shopaholic (guilty!) set a limit; once the auction starts rolling, you'll be bitten by the "Bid" bug. And be sure to go early. The gallery opens in the early afternoon so you can stroll through and take a close look at all the wares. Auction starts at 6pm, so arrive early. Enjoy!
