| - I had a chance to see "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" produced by the Mesa Encore Theater at the Mesa Art Center.
I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. The small cast does an outstanding job bringing life to each character they play in this fast paced and often hilarious look at dating and marriage. The dialogue is witty and there are scenes for most stages of love at every adult stage of life. There is nothing wrong with a classic love story but it was refreshing to see love from the perspective of singles, married couples, newly singled, widows and widowers for a change.
The versatality of the actors and actresses was truly amayzing as they transformed into their various roles. The vocals are wondeful with rich, deep, resonant notes from the men and beautiful, light, floating notes from the women, The smaller theater, creative staging and excellent pianist and violinist right on stage all give the show an intimate feeling. I loved the combination of the two instruments with the vocals and thought the show had just the right balance of dialogue and musical numbers.
I wouldn't take my kids to see this show because of the few moments of adult language and subjects but I wouldn't feel squirmy with my golden age Mom in the next seat either.
Take a date, take a friend, take your spouse, take your parents- it's a great show that I think you'll really enjoy.
