I have been going to Mastro's literally since the day it opened. For the most part I can say that for well over a decade I did not have a bad meal. It was the go to place for the best steak.
The staff was always uber professional and accommodating. Five star all the way. Unfortunately since they were acquired (by Landrys) everything I just stated has gone right into the toilet. The waiter that served us treated my wife like we were at a Denny's at midnight. We were a party of eight and he forgot to take her order. But to make matters worse when he came back to the table and she mentioned that he had forgotten to take her order, he said "hold on a minute while I put these appetizers in". Then there is the food. As I said, it used to be that they had hands-down the best steak you could get anywhere at any price. Now I could do just as well at any mid level chain restaurant. Clearly the new corporate culture is to cut costs and save money no matter what. But they're missing the big picture big time and this place sadly just sucks now...we will not go back. Interestingly our friends have told us the same thing about their recent experience there so we are not alone. Not surprisingly the best servers that have been there for years are all gone too. So sad, the end of an era.
