| - I like Dr. Saraiya, but I am completely unimpressed with the front office staff.
I went in for a relatively early appointment at 11 AM. After waiting 30 minutes I was called in for my appointment, which took maybe 5-10 minutes. I was scheduled for an endoscopy which I didn't think was necessary, but was told we should do it, as well as an ultrasound. Since I have good insurance and they are low risk I figured okay, why not.
So all goes well, I have the endoscopy. The surgery center called the next day. I told them I was having breathing problems, which they told me to call my Doctor. So I called the office and was put on hold for about 15 minutes. Then I was hung up on. I called back right away and explained I was hung up on, to which Nancy told me "no, you didn't answer when I said something" (which was untrue). In any case they told me the breathing wasn't a side effect of the procedure, it was just a coincidence and I should go to my primary care doctor. So I did and sure enough it was a side effect of the endoscopy.
About 2 weeks' I went in for a second exam. Every single office I've been to usually calls to schedule a follow up when they receive the results. This was not the case here. After 2 weeks I called to get the results. This is how it went.
Me: Hi, I was calling to get the results from my exam.
Nancy: Hi, yes we called you after the procedure (untrue, I called them)
Me: I didn't receive a call about my procedure. I also had an exam 2 weeks' ago and didn't receive a follow-up to schedule an appointment.
Nancy: Oh, we usually give them at the same time (aka just contradicting what she said).
Me: Okay, so can I get the results, is everything fine?
Nancy: Yes, you scheduled an appointment for Monday.
Me: I never scheduled an appointment.
Nancy: Okay, well you have an appointment at 1. Do you want to keep it?
Me: Okay, I will keep that appointment.
This unprofessional and last-minute scheduling of an appointment (most likely she schedule this while we were on the phone), as well as failure to take initiative and reach out to a patient, makes me extremely frustrated in this office and not want to return. It's a shame as Dr. Saraiya was very nice.
