| - The boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend in Madison a month ago. The room was a great size with plenty of seating and lighting options. We had a view of the lake, which was partially obscured by the Monona Terrace, which I hadn't considered. That being said, it was still very pretty. There was even a hot chocolate bar set up in the lobby, which was a nice touch.
We were within easy walking distance of the Capitol, the winter Farmer's Market, State Street, and meals at El Dorado Grill, Graze, Ian's Pizza, and Marigold Kitchen. We parked our car ($15 per day, lasting from check-in to 4PM on day of check-out) and didn't take it out until we were on our way out of town.
The biggest complaint that we had about the hotel was that the water was, for lack of a better word, slimy. Every time we washed our hands, we would have to wipe off the residue on the towels. Maybe there's too much softener in the water. Not sure, really. I also didn't think the breakfast buffet looked like much - your standard scrambled eggs/potatoes/sausage buffet. Especially since the breakfast was NOT included with the hotel room, it was much more cost-effective (and more delicious, I bet) to walk a block over to the Marigold Kitchen.
We definitely plan on staying here again. The location just can't be beat.
