  • I TRULY REGRET TAKING MY BEST FRIEND TO THE METROPOLITAN VETERINARY HOSPITAL. I had very bad experiences with DR. GREG CHAMBERS & the surgeon DR. SHELDON PADGETT. Dr. CHAMBERS DID NOT FULLY COMMUNICATE THE SERIOUSNESS OF MY DOG'S CONDITION THROUGHOUT OUR INTERACTIONS ! THE SURGEON Dr. PADGETT WAITED NEARLY 3 DAYS TO DO AN EMERGENCY PROCEDURE THEN UNFAIRLY COERCED US HARD TO EUTHANIZE OR JUST GIVE UP AND LET OUR DOG DIE! I HAVE LOST TRUST IN THEM BOTH Total costs over $3800...& losing my best friend ever... July 29,2015 Dr. Chambers diagnosed my dog with two small lesions on the spleen & one at 5cm on the liver. He said that there was a 50% possibility of the lesions being benign or malignant. He recommended surgery but also said that because my dog was 12 I might not want to spend the money on surgery & I might consider seeing a holistic vet associated with the clinic. HE DIDN'T MENTION THE HIGH RISK OF DEATH THAT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME FROM A BLEEDING SPLEEN LESION. HE DIDN'T MENTION THAT A RAPID GROWING CANCER IS OFTEN KNOWN TO START ON THE SPLEEN IN DOGS. He said to consider surgery & come back in 6 weeks for follow up. (in 6 weeks some lesions can grow allot) IF I WAS MORE FULLY INFORMED I WOULD HAVE SCHEDULED SURGERY EARLIER ON. Sept.10, I rushed my dog into emergency as I thought the spleen bled when he collapsed. Dr. Chambers ultrasound and x-ray evaluation said no to a bleed and instead he diagnosed arthritic inflammation in the rear legs and a possible intestinal virus. He did not mention anything about the lesions being larger after the examinations. He said to come back in another 6 weeks for follow up. During the following 3 wks I had difficulty getting Dr. Chambers to respond about fatigue & poor appetite. I THINK HE WAS NOT BEING FULLY OPEN AND HONEST IN SHARING INFORMATION WITH ME. Oct. 4, 5, Again I rushed my dog to emergency. My dog collapsed & was obviously bleeding internally as his gums were pale and skin was cold. Another internist did another ultrasound which showed more small lesions on the liver. They advised against surgery & said my dog probably had a malignant form of cancer. I SAID TO GO AHEAD WITH SURGERY. I ASKED TO HAVE SURGEON CALL ME. SURGERY WAS SCHEDULED OCT. 7, 12 PM. NEARLY 3 DAYS AFTER MY DOG WAS ADMITTED ! Oct. 7, - 11:30 am - DAY OF SURGERY. THEY BROUGHT MY DOG OUT TO SEE ME BEFORE SURGERY IN A STATE NEAR DEATH FROM AN EVEN WORSE INTERNAL BLEED THAN WHEN HE WAS ADMITTED! I WAS IN SHOCK ! Dr. Padgett waited untill this 20 minutes before surgery while my dog was in grave distress to COERCE us with his "OPINION" that my dog was suffering from a malignant cancer and BASICALLY SAID SURGERY WOULD BE FUTILE. He said his "OPINION" was based on19 years of experience & viewing my dog's ultrasound readings. He said my dog had a 7cm lesion & multiple smaller lesions on the liver & on the spleen. He "ASSUMED" that the multiple number of smaller nodes were malignant & STRESSED HIS "OPINION" AS THOUGH IT WERE FACT! HE EXAGGERATED THE MOST TRAGIC OUTCOMES OF DOING SURGERY. He gave a 50% chance my dog may not even make it out of surgery. I was very emotionally distressed. I felt coerced, rushed to make a decision & was not ready to let my friend go & he was not ready to go. Aside from the internal bleeds he was very alert & active and wagged his tail allot. I AGAIN SAID TO "PROCEED WITH SURGERY". THE SURGEON PERSISTED MORE WITH DOUBTS. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO THINK CLEARLY. REGRETFULLY I GAVE IN. I TRULY REGRET MY DECISION MADE UNDER SUCH DURESS I asked the surgeon to prescribe for my dog the anti-bleed herb, yunnan baiyao, and I would take him home to die. He died in my vehicle about 20 minutes later. Why wasn't the anti-bleed herb, yunnan baiyao, prescribed days earlier? ( OFTEN SURGEONS WILL WRONGLY ASSUME MASSES ARE MALIGNANT & THE ONLY WAY TO BE CERTAIN IS TO STUDY PORTIONS OF THEM IN A LAB! There was never any type of biopsy or lab test done that indicated a specific form of cancer in my dog. NO OTHER MASSES SHOWED UP ANYWHERE ELSE IN MY DOG. ON AVERAGE 50% OF CASES WITH BLEEDING NODES ON THE LIVER & SPLEEN ARE BENIGN. ) IT IS COMMON FOR OLDER DOGS TO HAVE MULTIPLE BENIGN LESIONS ON THE LIVER & SPLEEN! Large benign lesions can also bleed. SEE; "Is It Cancer? Never Assume" http://www.veterinarypracticenews.com/october-2012/is-it-cancer-never-assume Hemangoisarcoma; About The Diagnosis http://robinsonvet.com/documents/Hemangiosarcoma.pdf. Expert Vet "Splenic Tumors" http://www.expertvet.com/articles/splenic-tumors The staff at the Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital will try to talk you into euthanizing your dog if the dog has a bleeding lesion in the liver or spleen. If you choose to go ahead with surgery it's likely that the hospital's surgeon, Dr. Padgett, will wait utill the last minutes before surgery to try & coerce you into euthanizing your dog. This happened with me while my dog layed with his head in my lap
