| - This is for the DOWNTOWN (Spadina and Dundas) location. I did the Space Odyssey room.
I've done about 8 escape rooms in Toronto, and I'd say I liked this one the least. It definitely had some cool elements, which I don't know how to talk about without giving too much away, so I won't. The atmosphere was fun.
The puzzles were a bit janky and we ended up activating the last puzzle by accident, which completely threw us for a loop.
Overall it was a fun experience, but aside from the sorta-disappointing puzzles, there was one MAJOR downside. The employee told us that we could buzz her if we needed help, but she didn't tell us that she would be entering the room without being asked. She came into the room and offered unsolicited advice, and even told us outright how to solve some of the puzzles. This majorly affected our enjoyment of the game because we didn't get the satisfaction of solving the puzzles ourselves.
ALL the other escape rooms I've done have offered hints only when asked, and in my opinion, that's how it should be. She came in at least three times, and after the last time, the whole group came to a consensus that if she entered again, we would ask her to stop, but she never did and so we were not able to tell her our thoughts.
Another thing, was that the puzzles were aligned pretty linearly, so not more than 2-3 people could work on one at a time. This meant that many people were standing around with nothing to do. We had 8 people in the room.
But in any case, I'm generally happy to take part in these kinds of things, so it was fun regardless of my complaints.
