| - Pros: I'd been searching for a few months for a non-leather sectional made of material that would withstand our two dogs (You think your dogs aren't on the couch when you leave? Pfft.) I found the sectional I wanted online and went to The Dump to find it in store.
Con 1: First, no one offered to help me. Maybe black women don't spend money here? I dunno. Anyway, I tracked down a sales person and asked if they had in stock the sectional I was seeking. Guy 1 checks the computer and points me in the vague, general direction of the sectional. Guy 2 says "It's supposed to be somewhere over there but I don't think we have it." Undeterred, I find the sectional I'm looking for RIGHT BY THE FRONT DOOR.
Con 2: I'm now ready to actually purchase the sectional. I counted four sales people walking by me like I was part of the furnishings. Not one person stopped. Not one. I'm frustrated now so I just walk back to my car. But really, my SO and I have been looking for this type of couch for a long time and even though it's about $500 more than I think it should be, I'm willing to buy it. So I go back into the store, track down a sales person, who acts like he should be nominated for sainthood for simply looking up from his computer, and ask for help with the couch. He's busy apparently (not sure doing what, exactly) so he sends another guy over to "help" me.
Con 3: "Helper" guy can't take any money off the couch, even though it's allegedly the last one and is a floor model. I ask if they can do something on the delivery charge. He gives me $50 off. I'm not impressed but I take it. We then go to the "customer service" desk to sign final docs. Girl at the desk to "helper" dude: Who approved the $50 delivery charge? "Helper" dude: It's only one piece. Desk girl: She still is supposed to pay $149. So, I'm from Brooklyn, right. And I gave her a look that said: Today, I pay $99. That was the end of the negative experience 3.
Con 4: I am told that the couch will be delivered on Monday. I will get a phone call on Sunday to give me the three-hour delivery timeframe. I don't get a phone call. I get a text saying the couch will be delivered between 9 a.m. and noon. I check my Outlook calendar for work the next day and man, I am booked solid with meetings through 1 p.m. I call the delivery service and ask if the delivery can be later. (This is a full 24 hours before the actual delivery. Not the day of.) I'm told I can't change the delivery time or day without paying a restocking fee because the couch is already on the truck. (Is the truck now in Azerbaijan?? or Tempe?)
I haven't even gotten the couch into my house but me and the man have decided that The Dump is aptly named and not deserving of our business. I was being lazy and didn't feel like driving to Mesa but I should have because The Room Store Clearance Center always has excellent customer service, great deals and reasonably priced delivery charges (and if you say, have a living to earn on a Monday, they can change your delivery to Tuesday with no hassle.) All in all, The Dump can kiss it. So long.
