  • It was time to say our goodbyes. My daughter just took a job in Seattle to be a C-Level Executive for an international company based out of Seattle. She would be leaving the following morning, and already held her going away party with her friends and sisters. It was now time to say goodbye to Dad and Mom. She wanted to stay close to her condo as she was busy packing, and had movers arriving in a few hours. We're a Sun Devils family. We've eaten here at Z Tejas over the years after many sporting events, and other activities at ASU. We've seen this place evolve and devolve, and have had mixed reactions as time passed. We decided to avoid this place for several years when we heard that they were going through some rough times, and got to experience it in the form of downgraded food quality and lackadaisical service. Such was not the case this Sunday morning, during our brunch engagement. Perhaps, it was the fact that we were the only other customer in the house, or that they were just simply trying to do their best to elevate our experience level. I say this due to the fact that this definitely was not the typical Z Tejas experience. Our server was attentive, prompt and courteous, and the food was quite delectable and appetizing. For starters we had the bran muffin with fresh fruit. Then our server introduced us to the fact that for every order of a pan of corn bread, the restaurant would donate the proceeds to a worthy charity. That was our cue - sign us up! For the main courses, we had the Chorizo Skillet, Chicken and Hash, and the Chicken Fried Chicken. These were definitely not the typical Z Tejas fare that we were familiar with and had grown disinterested with over the years. These were definitely quite a step above, and quite flavorful. The portions were smallish, but enough to satisfy our appetites. We even opted to order the Guac, Salsa and Cheese Dip combo as an aside to add dimension to our meals. And we were not the least bit disappointed! Management has definitely done a remarkable job turning this franchise around, and elevating one's dining experience expectations. Very well done!
