| - Although I travel frequently, I've never posted a review on Yelp. My experience with MO has made me post my first review.
As a local LV resident, i've heard many great things about the MO. I wanted to do something special for my wife's birthday, so I made a reservation for a Cityscape suite and planned for us to do a staycation. We don't gamble much, and I wanted to steer clear from the loud, smokey casino hotels that are common on the strip. The reservation was made three weeks in advance, and as the days approached our check-in, I received several personal, but professional emails requesting more information about our stay. I was asked for my wife's name, and any other guests who would be staying with us at the MO (it was just me, my wife and our infant son). I told the receptionist that it was for her birthday, and I hinted how awesome it would be if they could include any complimentary items (i.e. some flowers) as it would make it the surprise that much better.
Due to work, we were late to our check-in. It was about 8pm. I opted to use Aria's self-park as I thought MO's valet was on the steep end ($30 a night), and because we did not plan on driving much. The walking route to get from Aria's parking garage to MO was not pleasant, especially since we had luggage and a stroller to lug around. By the time we arrived to the lobby of the MO, we were ready to get in the room and relax. Upon approaching the front desk on the 23rd floor, we were greeted and given a huge surprise: We were told that we were upgraded, free of charge, to the Presidential Suite.
My initial thought was that they had made some sort of mistake. The receptionist said it wasn't and that we were bumped up and to enjoy the weekend.
Upon getting up to the 20th floor, we walked out of the elevator, went down the hallway and initially could not find the room. This was probably due to our excitement and disbelief. We circled back, and realized we walked right past the suite, known as the Taipan Suite. It had a two door entrance, and our jaws dropped upon walking in.
The rooms were absolutely gorgeous. Every detail was thought of, to include a fresh bouquet of flowers, a sealed birthday card from the hotel, dessert with my wife's name written on it, along with extra soft cookies. Probably the coolest thing of all, though, was a stack of children's books, a sippy cup and a bib with my son's name embossed on it. Seriously! My wife, who had a rough week at work, was literally in tears. We walked through the suite three times to make sure we could appreciate all of the niceties that came with it.
Niceties:
Giant Steam shower
Gigantic bathtub with jets
Double sink
Down everything--pillows, comforters
Silk cushions
Two executive bedrooms on opposite sides of the suite
A stocked bar
Private dining area
Executive study area
Personal Gym in the suite! (seriously?)
Three bathrooms
Kitchen with stove/sink/full stainless refrigerator
Needless to say, we did not want to leave the hotel because it just felt good to be there. We were treated like royalty. We really enjoyed our weekend.
Note: I did not research any of the other suites the MO had to offer above the Cityscape suite, simply because of my budget for the birthday weekend. After I got home, I went looking at the hotel website, this is what I saw:
Cityscape Suite: 1040 sq ft ($639 per night)
Taipan Suite: 3100 sq ft (call for reservations)
So, I did what any curious and nosy hotel guest would do..I called the reservation line. I was told the rate for the Taipan suite was dependent on the date but on average it was in the thousands per night. I hung up the phone and sat in silence.
The MO staff went out of their way to make us feel very welcome, and my wife could not believe how great of a birthday weekend it was. To everyone at Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, thank you for making her birthday memorable. I am not sure if we can ever top this experience.
