SETTING
Very small place with very limited bar stools along the wall for dining in. Menu is written on blackboards that stretch along the walls. More seating outside. Wood everywhere!
FOOD
We ordered the top two recommended sandwiches: Ribeye sandwich (medium rare, unless you tell them otherwise) and the Rosemary braised beef sandwich.
Wow, the ribeye was perfection! Definitely a heavy sandwich with thick cuts of ribeye topped with roasted red peppers and onions on a ciabatta-type bread. The rosemary braised beef sandwich was delicious as well, a little lighter than the ribeye, but still filling. The horseradish sauce went very well with the beef and caramelized onions.
The four kinds of sauces they offer were excellent. Definitely try dipping your sandwiches in them for an extra kick!
SERVICE
Despite the long lines, the food was made in a reasonable amount of time. To make the line more bearable, there was always loud and silly banter amongst the cooks and register. It was as if I was at an improv show! One customer was taking a photo and the cooks immediately struck a pose. Another was hugging his girlfriend, and the cooks joked out loud to their customers that he was actually "holding her up from falling down" due to the long wait. Hilarious! Order up front and they call your name once your order is ready.
IMPRESSIONS
There aren't many places that serve such quality meat inside a sandwich at a reasonable price. Each meal comes with a side of laughs as well. Everyone there is happy and leaves with his stomach happy, this is why Gaucho's is a must visit...just be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes.
