| - I had the chance to try a $45 menu decouverte for lunch with a friend recently and I have to say that I was rather disappointed. I loved the first course, the lobster cappucino was just fantastic, and then it kind of just went downhill from there... I chose the lower river shrimps and pea veloute for my second course. Really, it should only be ordered in the summer. The veloute is cold and the shrimps are tiny. My friend`s beef tartar was ok, but since I am not a fan of beef tartar, I couldn`t take more than a bite of it. For the main course, I had the cornish hen. It was cooked to perfection. The pea mousseline that came with it tasted exactly like what was on the plate of the second course, and since I didn`t enjoy it the first time, I wasn`t too excited to find it on my plate a second time around. My friend`s bass filet was nicely done, although the portion was tiny and I felt really guilty for eating even a bite of it. The desserts were not really memorable, but the final touch with the cotton candy brought on a bit of childhood nostalgia. There was more cotton candy than we could eat, but it was a fun final touch. The $8 sencha at the end felt like highway robbery. If I had chosen this menu for supper, I would say that it is a decent prix fixe menu, but for lunch, it is a little too extravagant.
