Had the AC work done I had originally called about the following Saturday. The staff was friendly and I expected it to be an all day thing. The compressor had to be replaced on a car with just under 30k miles on it. The basic warranty was no longer valid because it is a 30k or 36 months whichever is first and the car was outside 36 months. Cost me almost 1k for the work (compressors aren't cheap). I probably could have gotten it replaced for cheaper elsewhere. That isn't the maddening part though.
I contacted Nissan Corp for this region and appealed. A major component shouldn't go out that soon on a vehicle especially a Nissan. Corporate did their best to investigate it but in the end they told me it was outside of warranty and wouldn't help me. When I explained that I bought from a dealer specifically to avoid these kind of issues they basically told me in nice words that I shouldn't trust the dealership in making sure a car they sell me is mechanically sound. I didn't buy the extended warranty for the car because I expect a car to last a little better than that and generally they are a waste of money. 3k for 30k. Even with my repair I'm still ahead of the curve.
So my gripe is that this dealership doesn't check over their used cars and will pass off a lemon and that Nissan Corp will not stand by their products which is a shame because I've had 2 Nissan's in the past and never had issues with them. Guess I'm back to Toyota or Honda after this one.
As a follow up, I had a couple of customer service people call regarding my service and I told them my experience. The dealership call and offered a free tank of gas as an apology.
