| - I've stayed here a few times and my latest visit was not particularly enjoyable but that wasn't the fault of the hotel. For me, the Hard Rock has lost its mojo. It used to have a sort of hip, independent feel to it but now it's just an average corporate Las Vegas hotel with a gimmick. It's not very rock n roll, it's pretty ordinary. Despite the event that was taking place, check in was a breeze although I was 2 hours early for check in they were going to charge me a $10 "early check in" fee. Really ?! This is the sort crap that gets on my nerves but I doubt this practice is unique to the Hard Rock. Anyway, I paid $25 for an upgrade for a room in the "Paradise Tower" with a view overlooking the pool. Meh, it's January, what's to see ? The room was clean, the bed was nice and the bathroom was excellent. No complaints there, I'll give the room a 5. The check in clerk was really, really good 5 stars for him. When I made my booking I neglected to check what event was being hosted at the hotel. To my horror, I found out the Hard Rock Hotel was hosting the annual AVN Awards and Expo, basically a four day porn festival. I was with my wife, celebrating our wedding anniversary and we find ourselves in the middle of a porn fest. Ugh. But that's not the Hard Rock's fault and that did not count against them in my review. I would have stayed elsewhere had I known what was going on. Needless to say, my wife and I din't spend much time in the hotel which is a shame because I usually enjoy the casino and bars. But perhaps I am just too old for this place now and have out grown it. But kudos to the check in clerk who gave us a couple of complimentary drinks to try to make up my snafu.
