This was my first Uncle Tetsu cheesecake. I have been meaning to try it for a while. I work close to Love Me Sweet in Thornhill and go there quite frequently but they do not have a matcha version. I was in the area and thought, "why not!"
The line outside looked fairly long. As I walked closer, I realized there were two separate store fronts, one for the regular Uncle Tetsu's and one for the matcha cafe. I only wanted matcha and was extreme happy to see only one person ahead of me in that line.
I had heard about the Madeleines as well and had to try those too. I got one of each (regular matcha and matcha with red bean) as well as a matcha cheesecake (without the red bean). I loved all of them! I liked the consistency and flavour of everything and found that I could still taste the matcha. I love strong matcha flavour and I find most places skimp on it. It wasn't overly strong but there was a good presence of flavour.
Since I've had Japanese cheesecake before, I knew that I would like the taste more after being refrigerated overnight so I honestly don't know what it would taste like fresh. I would think it's amazing either way but I just prefer the flavour and the fact that it is slightly more dense after being in the fridge.
In terms of the service, I thought it was good. Prices seem pretty competitive and reasonable, although I wouldn't call it cheap.
I noticed after I ordered that they had a special where you can buy 3 Madeleines and get one free. Hopefully they still have the promo the next time I'm here because I will be back!
