I have submitted two complaints in the past to Mercy Gilbert Medical Center about their Emergency Room and the extremely long time it took for my daughter and wife to be treated. The latest visit involved my wife with stroke symptoms. Although the her medical care was excellent, she lost two pairs of earrings...one of the nurses removed them from her before her second CT Scan and they were never returned to us. I submitted a third complaint via their web site and after an "internal investigation" they claimed no responsibility. The "travel" nurse that removed the earrings claimed she placed them in my wife's belongings bag, which she did not do. We went through everything that was in that bag and found nothing; it would be irresponsible to just place two pairs of earrings loosely into a large belongings bag.
In their letter claiming no responsibility, attached was Conditions of Admission document and they pointed out the section that started out "You should leave your personal belongings at home". When a person is experiencing stroke symptoms and the EMT's have arrived, nobody in their right mind is thinking about personal belongings. In my opinion, this was very unprofessional and disrespectful.
One pair was a 14k Gold 1/2 Carat Diamond Stud set that has a lot of sentimental value and the other is a pair of 14k Gold Hoop Earrings (0.6" Diameter) that was purchased in January of this year. The replacement value of the diamond set is two and a half to three times the original purchase price. There is nothing we can do to recover the lost earrings; we will purchase replacement pairs but the new diamond ones will never have the sentimental value of the original set.
