My brother brought a four-pack of cupcakes from Gigi's last week as an after dinner as well as an after a long day at the hospital taking care of Mom treat. I was impressed with the pretty packaging and how it was relatively easy extracting the cupcakes from the box while maintaining the integrity of the frosting.
Our plan of attack was the split two cupcakes over two days so we can try all of the flavors without feeling too guilty. We tried the Strawberry Shortcake and the Chocolate Turtle first. I'm usually not a fan of fruit in my desserts, but the Strawberry Shortcake made a convert out of me. It was light and fluffy. The red sugar crystals added a subtle crunch. My favorite of the two. The Chocolate Turtle was a bit heavy even for me. The next night we tried the Midnight Chocolate and the Wedding Cake. The former was a Chocolate party in your mouth without being too overwhelming. It was death by Chocolate-lite. The Wedding Cake was really good. I can see why it's their Number 1 bestseller. It's simple yet delicious, elegant, and light. Both were winners for me. Also, both cupcakes kept well in the fridge overnight. They were still moist the next day; we just left them at room temperature for about an hour before eating. What I also didn't mind was the amount and sweetness of the frosting. It was not terribly overwhelming and I found myself not scraping off as much as I usually would with other store-bought cupcakes.
