| - My wife and I wanted to purchase a 2016 Subaru Forester so I called Peoria Subaru. The person I spoke with (Jennifer) was very nice and said they have $4,000 promotions and that they could get me a good deal. I asked whether they're on the Costco Auto Program and she said, "yes."
First, the Costco Auto Program is somewhat of a scam. I called back to ask about the Costco Auto Program Pricing and was forwarded to Anthony. He gave me a very high price. We have a friend who bought a similar 2016 Subaru Forester a month earlier from Peoria Subaru for $1,500 less than what Anthony was offering.
Our hope was that we could do some of the price negotiations via email and phone with Peoria Subaru before driving across town to make a visit since we knew of the exact vehicle we wanted. Given that we have a friend who bought a similar 2015 Subaru Forester a month earlier, we had what we believed was a very good price. Unfortunately, Peoria Subaru does no negotiation via phone or email. Anthony even suggested that our friend wasn't being honest with us about the price she received. No, our friend was very clear that her price was an OTD (out the door) price without a trade-in.
Peoria Subaru basically took the position that the Costco price was take it or leave it, even when we stated we don't want to buy under the Costco program.
The thing is, this would have been the EASIEST car sale ever for Peoria Subaru. We knew exactly the car (model and features) we wanted. We knew a fair price that they had sold at a month earlier. We were ready to come over, pay cash (actually personal check) with a minimal time requirement. We were looking for a simple car-buying process. It was obvious they weren't interested in selling us a car.
Anyway, we did buy our 2016 Subaru Forester, but from another dealership that was willing to negotiate price with us and make the buying process easy.
