| - Whether you're a university student, a visitor attending a scholarly conference, a fan in town to attend a Badger football game, or a weary traveler, a leisurely walk along the Lakeshore Path, bounded by beautiful Lake Mendota, will reawaken and sooth your aesthetic sensibilities to the fullest. During my last morning 2.5 mile walk, a young white-tailed deer drinking water from an area of the lake, partially obscured by a low hanging tree, looked up, paused for a brief interval, then bolted and headed through a well-worn path that led back into the surrounding dense vegetation and foliage. American Crows circled above and let out a series of high-pitched, loud caws. Northern Cardinals, American Tree Sparrows and Red-Winged Blackbirds whistled and sang in harmony. A Red Cardinal hopped up onto a branch of a fallen tree and started pecking for food. Madison in all it's glory.
