I used to eat at How lee when it was a small "fast food" Chinese dinner some years back when I lived in Squirrel Hill. It was pretty cheap and the food was great.
Since the owner decided to renovate the restaurant and try to make it a "classy" Chinese dinner, not only the prices doubled but the quality of the dishes became worse. There is inconsistency (all the time) with: 1) Portions; 2) Sauce (quantity and taste); 3) How well the meats are cooked (got my chicken raw on last visit). Most important is the attitude of the owner towards the customers and some of the girls that work there.
In one occasion, I ordered "chicken with mixed vegetables" and the carrots were sour and saggy with bad smell (seemed to be left overs from previous day). When I explained this to the owner (on another visit, 3 weeks later) she insisted that there is nothing wrong with her dishes and became aggressive, then concluded that I must have been mistaken. On another occasion, I asked the girl on the front desk for some extra soy sauce (packed in small plastic packages) and she refused to give me saying that my meal (carry out) included one pack. I was surprised!!
Bottom line, overly priced place with a lady owner that is rude towards customers trying to get the money spent on renovation from customers pockets.
