Holy Frickin' Jesus! This market is awesome.
This review is based on one visit on a rainy Saturday -- I heard Saturday is the day to go (because there's the most vendors) but I heard form the vendors that rainy days are slow (customer-wise) so it was perfect!
Maximum vendor-age, minimum customer-age.
Though, it was still busy as hell, and I (a person who doesn't deal with crowds well), probably wouldn't be quite as pleased if the place was as jam-packed as it usually is...
Either way, this place is amazing and totally worth a visit. If not for practical shopping, then at least to just see it once.
The market seemed better for meat, fish and cheese than it did for veggies though we found some awesome organics, health food and ethnic items in the basement.
Some of the must do's according to me:
1) Eat the peameal bacon sandwich -- holy jesus that was good
2) Get free meat samples and free cheese samples from all the vendors
3) Go to the tea shop at the north exit for awesome loose leaf tea
4) Buy the sheep's milk from the British lady in the north market building
5) Load up on organics from downstairs asian market
6) Park in the covered lot way at the south end of market street. It's the cheapest parking and not too far.
7) Stick around to the end of the market because the vendors start selling off things really cheap.
Damn yo, St. L is da bomb!
