  • This is the Polish equivalent of Loblaws/Metro. I came here with a Polish friend who wanted to prepare surprise surprise Polish food for the holiday dinner. The place was slammed with a good amount of time to find a parking. There were lineups everywhere and they started from outside at a fresh seafood (located outside the entrance in an open area which is a first for me) to where one tries to get into the store itself. I think a lot of it has to do with the last weekend day before the holiday lull. Produce was OK IMO. There were some interesting items but most of it was the run of mill stuff. On to the meats/sausages man oh man what a sight. I mean two or three counters worth of sausages alone. Some very specific cuts of meat and cured stuff. Just beautiful. Smoked salmon looked good and was priced well too. On to the cheese counter again some very interesting selection and some of them I have not seen elsewhere. I like the sign that said try before you buy both for meat and cheese. On to the desserts, some items from dufflet and then some very specific desserts from the region. The double merignue pie caught my and I had to have a piece. A very nice dessert no to sweet and a nice contrast of soft and hard meringue. On to the breads. Here maybe I think they are bit behind as I didn't see much variety here. Then we moved on to the frozen section which is dedicated to the perhaps most well known of polish food items after the sausages Perogies. There is an immense selection here and will satisfy even the most jaded of perogies eaters. Pickles section might freak some people out as apart from the 3 types for sauerkraut and your normal pickles they had pickled fish out in the open for one to pick up and take away! They seem to be priced well for items I can compare elsewhere. I spend a good couple of hours here followed by a 30 minutes wait to checkout. My knowledge of Polish food is limited but my polish friend told me that they can go toe to toe with any polish grocer in Europe. A very high praise indeed. 4 Stars if you are looking for food items from that region.
