As someone who travels to Vancouver every year to visit family, I'm quite familiar with Cupcakes by Heather and Lori. Every time my grampa and I stroll by English Bay, we always pop by for a yummy freshly baked cupcake.
I recently had a craving for cupcakes, and decided to stop by their Toronto location while I was in the area. There's no way you can miss the giant Cupcakes sign outside the store.
I have to say I've experienced better in Vancouver.
I was there on Thursday before 2:30pm and there was barely anything left! Their options mostly lied in the "day old cupcakes", since their trays were mostly bare (see photos). My favourites, Caramella, Koo Koo, and Diva were sold out as well which was disappointing.
I even asked if I could take 3 of the day old cupcakes instead of a box of 6 (since my favourites were all the day old ones) and the cashier said that they're only sold by the half dozen. I don't know how I would eat half a dozen large cupcakes alone in a few days.
I ended up buying a Pink Hawaii and a Lava Flow for $7.
The lady working at the store wasn't as bubbly and friendly as I'm used to at their Vancouver locations. It would have also been nice to have some seating area (even one table and two chairs), so customers could enjoy coffee with their cupcakes. Their location in Toronto is also very random, but I guess they're doing well there.
All in all it's good that Heather and Lori have a location in Toronto, sadly it's not as great as the Vancouver stores.
