| - This animal hospital WAS the best in the area but not anymore.
Besides taking my own pets there, sometimes I was taking my foster kittens there for check ups (I volunteer for the animal control), and I got my first concern when I started to keep seeing new vets that I never seen there before (I'm not talking about a couple of visits, that happened over 5-6 times for sure). It was a bit annoying cause first, I needed to go over my pets health history again and again, and second, they kept running to their manager to find out if they follow their "new safety policy" for any little thing.
My last 2 visits to them with my dogs were a nightmare.
One of my dogs has separation anxiety and in the past when he was getting shots, they were done in front of me when I was holding and comforting him, and there were no problems at all. But that time, a new vet insisted that she has to take him to the back office, cause it's their new policy, and that he can't get his shots otherwise. Stupidetly, I agreed to that. In a few minutes I heard my dog screaming out of pain. When she brought him back, she told me that he needs to get sedated every single time I bring him in (even for his baths that he really loves).
My very last visit there turned to be even worse. I wanted to board my dogs there again cause we were going out of town to visit one of our relatives that was seriously sick. I reserved 1 kennel for both of them as we did before a few times. When I took them in to board, I was told that we are going to be seen by a new vet tech and a new vet... again... It was supposed to be a regular check up so I thought this is not going to be a big deal. The nightmare began when a new vet tech entered the room. During his assessment, he literally cornered my dog and squeezed his genitals. I volunteer for the pet shelter, and the very first rule volunteers learn during their orientation session is to not corner pets! So my dog growled at him and ran out of that corner. In a few minutes, a new vet entered the room to inform me that first, they can't place them both in the same kennel cause they have different kennels after renovation, and second, my dog is aggressive and based on their safety policy if I board him there, he has to be sedated on a daily basis and to pay extra $250 for those procedures. I asked her how is this possible if we boarded Sasha there multiple times before, there were no problems at all, their staff loved him and girls at the front desk kept hugging him every time they saw him, and that the fact he growled at the vet tech was his entire fault. She kept telling me that it's their "new safety policy". Then I asked her to take me to their new kennels cause I wanna see them prior making a decision if I should board my dogs there or not. It literally took her 2 (!) hours to keep running back and forth to her manager, I was told that I can't see those kennels cause: they are in the back and only their personnel is allowed there, then that their building is still under construction and it's not safe for me to go to that area, etc. I started to lose my patience and told her that I'm the pet owner, I have the right to see what conditions my dogs are going to be kept in, otherwise I wont board none of my pets there (2 dogs and cats) and that I want to talk to her manager directly. So finally I was taken to see the kennels and I was shocked. Those kennels are extremely tiny! A large breed dog would barely be able to turn around there, that hallway with kennels was also badly ventilated (I'm not sure if it was because of the building construction) and the urine smell there was awful. In my opinion, to keep dogs in those conditions was inhumane. So I told them that I won't board my dogs there and asked them for their vaccine certificates, so I can find a better place for them. In the result, I got a bunch of lies that they can't provide Sasha's vaccine certificate cause "his data was entered manually and their system can't print it out cause of it", and instead I hot his visit summary where they wrote that Sasha is aggressive. Then I was told that he won't be accepted anywhere with that record and reminded about extra $250 fee for his daily sedation during his stay.
I took both of my dogs to a Petsmart hotel, to the location where employees knew my dogs very well cause they both had trainings there, and sometimes went there for day camps. I didn't want to board them there at the first place cause I didn't like that they don't take dogs out for walks. But I had no other choice, and boarded them there. And... Ta-da!!! There was NOT A SINGLE problem during their stay! When I was picking them up, a few girls employees ran out to say good bye to them, "agressive" Sasha was all over them wagging his tail like crazy and giving them tons of kisses.
P.S. I found a new vet hospital for my pets where we are getting seen by the same vet and a vet tech.
