| - So apparently, "Christmas Day Las Vegas Buffet" is a local tradition here in Sin City. I had no idea. I was quite honestly expecting an very nearly empty place with me, a huge spread of food and a sad waiter/waitress. 7AM-Noon was $38, Noon-10PM was $52. I'd pop in at ten, be out by eleven, drop forty dollars, and on the road headed home before noon. Bam.
However, when I arrived at ten in the morning for my Christmas breakfast I ran smack into the ass-end of a line. There were people advising of two to four hour waits. I was really looking forward to this part of the weekend, so I stuck it out. Turns out it wasn't so bad. The people in front of me were nice. The people behind me weren't very chatty, but they seemed like nice people. The casino had people give us water every so often, and even people who handed out toys to the kids because it was Christmas day. Well done Bellagio, well done. They were giving back to the people in line. Granted. The toys and water weren't worth fifty two dollars, but still. The thought and gesture was there.
Two hours actually passed fairly quickly. Before I knew it, I found myself paying for my ticket. I was then seated at a two person table next to another single occupant two person table with a nice gentlemen from Venezuela. He assured me that the buffet was absolutely worth the wait and price tag. We chatted between trips up to the buffet room. He had a large mound of partially eaten crab legs on some plates at his table.
Venezuelan neighbor was right. Each trip up to the buffet was incredible. The amount of food and cooking and talent put into the items was amazing. Even the pizza. The pizza was made with truffles. The crappy pizza you feed to your kids because they don't eat anything weird. Truffles. It was downright amazing. I even attempted an Alaskan King Crab leg. Never having had one before, I'm sure I looked like an idiot while eating it. Also amazing.
Since I had been in line for two hours, I did my best to stay just as long as I could. After an hour of eating nearly all of God's creatures prepared in incredible and assorted delectable ways, I simply couldn't eat any more. The desserts were as beautiful as they were tasty. I savored each bite as long as I could.
The Bellagio was highly recommended on yelp as the 'most Christmas' of all the casinos. With their amazing Holiday display in the conservatory, I tend to agree. This place is great. Even after two hours and sixty dollar price tag.
