| - Recently in the area for work, I attended an afternoon Power Yoga class. The class was a fine workout, but the instructor seemed very inexperienced and this was unlike any yoga class I have attended anywhere in the country. There was no yoga philosophy offered, no modifications, no hands-on assisting, no SUBSTANCE. I could have just stayed in my hotel and followed along with a video.
So I decided to go to a different class, with a different instructor a few days later, thinking that maybe the girl was just new or having an off day. Well, I swear it was like having deja vu.... SAME EXACT CLASS. A different, equally inexperienced instructor, no modifications, completely lacking substance. A workout, yes. But not a yogic experience.
So I did some research.
PLEASE READ BECAUSE THIS IS IMPORTANT : These instructors are not accredited by Yoga Alliance. I was shocked and appalled to see that Yoga Amazing's "yoga instructors" are trained in ONE WEEK, at a costly retreat that looks more like a vacation than anything. The training groups look so huge (20+ people), that there is no way someone could get a real education and certainly not a certification to become a yoga instructor.
I read the hidden reviews at the bottom here, and saw reviews of disappointed "yoga instructors" that went through the program. They described the training exactly as I imagined. One week of nothing but the same power workout training, with no spirituality, no anatomy, NOTHING that a yoga instructor must know to be effective. I feel so bad for these girls.
So this explains the inexperienced instructors, the lack of substance. These people probably don't know much about real YOGA at all. To them it's just a workout they learned how to teach in a week in Costa Rica.
This place is disgusting, and I'm mad at myself for supporting them with even a dime. Shame on them for extorting money from people to go on these retreats, and for devaluing the certification of real Yoga Instructors. I don't know how these owners sleep at night. You're putting these faux instructors out into the world, 20 of them at a time, up to 7 times a year (!!) according to your website, and letting them and others believe that they represent a true Yogic experience.
I'm reporting this place to Yoga Alliance today. I beg you to find a different studio in town with REAL instructors.
