| - We wanted to try this place for so long, but what a disappointment it turned out to be! Maybe Monday evening is not the best time to get fresh ingredients from this place. Maybe it was not the right chef there at the moment. Maybe you get mediocre food when you "take it out". I have no idea what went wrong, but if the place is consistently good, these factors should not matter, especially when your bill is $88 for 2 (food only).
Where do we begin? The presentation. I will give them that, almost everything looked neat and appetizing. I know size of sushi maybe a problem for some people, but not for us. We like small pieces with thinly sliced fish. In our mind that is how sushi are supposed to be, not gigantic pieces of thick fish for the added value. There are 2 potential problems here and we had both: freshness of fish and the way their rice is prepared. It was too sticky, too mushy and seemed to be too salty. At least it was not pressed as they usually do at stores (and unfortunately at some restaurants, yuck!) Same applies to the rolls we ordered (btw when a customer insists on no cucumber for both rolls, you repeat it while talking an order, it is a huge disappointment to find cucumber in both rolls!).
Real crab sushi was too salty for me, ok for my husband. He said Eel sushi was good.
Albacore Tuna Tataki salad - very fresh greens, nice sauce on a side, thank you for that, but not so fresh tasting albacore tuna! Could not finish it, put it aside after trying one piece. Same thing was with albacore tuna sushi.
Lobster dynamite - a mess of a baked mayo with langostino tails on the bottom (Costco?). If we ignore a huge amount of baked mayo for a second, I don't understand how you can replace a lobster with langostino tails without letting your customers know. There is a difference, it is not the same, and do not try to convince me otherwise! It is not ethical to call langostino a lobster, and it is not ethical to substitute one with another without letting your customers know (have no idea what was the case, but I suspect the first scenario) Also, please do not put slices of overripen avocado with tiny brown spots on a side - just skip it if you don't have a fresh one.
I do not get all these 5 star yelp reviews for this place. Besides, they do not even have half of the items pictured here from 2013. It is possible that the owner or chefs changed from those glorious times, but I am just speculating at this point.
One positive thing Pan Fried Gyoza and Yakisoba were quite tasty, but these dishes are not the main reason I go to a sushi restaurant, fresh fish and properly cooked rice are.
My husband and I got severe stomach ache the night after eating this dinner. I usually can eat nails and while people around me feel as if they were poisoned, I either feel nothing or very little. This is the first time in a few years I got poisoned. Without this last fact or if we had eaten or drank something else besides this dinner, it would have been 2 stars. Since I woke up in the middle of the night with a stomach ache, it is just 1 star, sorry. In the evening I was willing to give them a second chance, but in the morning I do not feel so generous at all! Waste of our time, energy and money.
