  • Beware! So, we picked this place based upon the good reviews that we reviewed on Yelp. We were to board our husky for 2 days. We even paid an additional fee for "extra attention and love" for our four legged member of the family. We informed the employees at Doggie District exactly how much he ate in his 2 meals each day and gave them exactly the correct amount for the time that he would be in their care. After the 2 days, my boyfriend picked him up in the evening & they said that he was good and he missed us. My BF brought him home & noticed that he had dark marks on both sides of his face and assumed he was just dirty or something. It was dark and we were very tired after our excursion. We also noticed that he was very tired looking and seemed to just want to sleep. Naively, we attributed this to him playing a lot, having a good time, and being worn out. The next day, I looked closer at his face and the marks were, in fact, wounds. It seemed as if they were washed and some of the "dirt" was a ring of residual blood on the white of his face. I also noticed that he was totally listless and not his usual, lively self. He also had a weird breathing thing that I had never heard before. As the day progressed, it only got worse. We also noted that he came home with half of his food that we sent with him. The following day, my BF emailed the owner/manager and asked if these marks were possibly from a muzzle or something. They simply stated that they do not use muzzles and gave a few vague possible reasons as to his listlessness. They said that there were bars on the door of the rooms and that some dogs put their snout thru them. They said that our dog got 20 min of 1 on 1 play an hour during the afternoons. Now, based on the injuries that my poor dog had on both sides of his face, wouldn't the person/employee (who was "playing" with him) have noticed? But, most importantly, why was absolutely nothing said to us when we picked him up? No mention whatsoever..... These, were things that should have been brought to our attention (like child's daycare does when there is an incident). Also, they said was that he ate all of his food each day. Why on earth did he come home with half of his food if he was eating all his food? I can only assume that he was fed 1 portion for the 2 days that he was in their care. His breathing became worse and worse. This is when I learned about Kennel Cough. It is pretty nasty sounding and makes you feel terrible for your precious fur baby as they struggle to breath. It doesn't go away overnight either. Again, keep in mind, when there is a breakout of any kind of sickness or ailment in a child's daycare, the parents are made aware the situation and to take precautions in monitoring their children. This is something that parents of fur babies should be informed of. Don't just let them worry senselessly about the hat the heck is wrong with their animal and incur financial strain (via veterinary visits) trying to figure out what is wrong. It has been almost a couple weeks now, and the kennel cough is just now starting to taper off. He has giant scabs on both sides of his face and his fur is starting to come off. I will never take my fur baby to a doggie district again! Not only that, I will be sure that others who care about their animals are aware of our terrible 2 day boarding experience on Yelp and any other venues (such as Facebook, BBB, etc) for business reviews. I will try to update this post as we go thru the recovery progress. Please note that the owner manager has not reached out to us nor made any inquiries as to how our dog has been since we tried to figure out what the heck happened. Vague and useless excuses from management who failed to make any inquiries with employees as to what could have happened, as far as I am concerned. They have taken no responsibility what so ever. After this experience, I learned more about how terrible this company is to it's employees. Do your own research and look into the employee reviews of this company and it's practices on Glass Door. The people who worked for them do not paint a favorable picture in any sense of the word. In my opinion, abused employees might be the equivalent to neglect of our animals. Upon retrospect, I do remember several mentions of a high turnover of employees amongst the first reviews that I read. Those terrible employee reviews of company practices only illuminated all that I gleaned over when I initially did my research. Not a "pet resort". *Please note that I cannot speak for their daycare. This is strictly for their "boarding" services.
